In addition to her piano playing, Lillie is active as a writer, specializing in fiction, creative nonfiction, and screenwriting. After minoring in Creative Writing at New York University, she completed her first novel and taught writing workshops at the Community School of the Arts and the Bridge Family Center in Connecticut. Her fiction and creative nonfiction have been published in The Slag Review and The Long River Review, and her piece “Schofield Road” won Third Place in the Writers’ Workshop of Asheville’s 2016 Memoirs Contest. At the University of Connecticut, she was selected to participate in the AETNA Writer-in-Residence fiction tutorials with author Jo-Ann Mapson. In addition to the NYU Creative Writing Program, Lillie has studied writing at The Center for Fiction in New York City, The Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis, and FilmNorth in Saint Paul, with teachers including Elissa Schappell, Fiona Maazel, Mohammed Naseehu Ali, Mitchell S. Jackson, and David Grant.
